POPCORN
At the end of the day, kids love snacks and there is nothing wrong with that!
What
snacking habits are you developing with your kids?
Today,
I am sharing something I make often for my nephew and niece. It’s fairly simple
and all you have to do is throw it in a pot and let it pop for a few minutes!
This is POPCORN! One of the cheapest
snacks you can develop with your kids.
The
type of popcorn you chose or give to your children is important. Below I am sharing the DO’s
and DONT’S about popcorn.
DONT’S
1. Do not allow you kids to consume microwavable
popcorn
·
Microwavable popcorn contains a lot of butter
which is a contributory factor to the obesity rate in our country today.
·
Almost all microwave popcorn varieties
come in is lined with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). This chemical is the same
toxic stuff found in teflon pots and pans. It can stay in the environment and
in the human body for long periods of time.
·
Hidden
ingredients such as MSG
2. Do not allow your kids to eat caramel
popcorn- Caramel is one of the contributory factors for kids
developing lifestyle disease such as Diabetes.
3. Do not allow your kids to indulge in any flavor or coloured popcorn which may be used to attack buyers-
Certain colouring's have been proven through research to be Cancer causing
agents.
DO'S
1. Purchase the loose kernels such as the one below
2. Place
in a pot with about two one to
one and half tablespoon of coconut oil (
can use butter instead)
This
method allows you the parent or caregiver to have control over the amount of
oil, butter or even salt that you are using in the preparation of your children’s
popcorn.
That’s all for now folks!
Stay tuned for my homemade plantain chips in my next post.
Awesome indeed, informative too, shall try this with my two nephews who may gravitate towards this idea. Very good tip.
